As conflicts persist globally, we reflect on the 75th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the ongoing challenges to international humanitarian law (IHL). Join us for an online event hosted by the ICRC, where we will examine the latest “International Humanitarian Law and the Challenges of Contemporary Armed Conflicts” report. This report, updated every four years, outlines current humanitarian challenges and the ICRC's strategic responses to the realities of over armed conflicts worldwide. The discussion will cover key issues such as the conduct of hostilities, new warfare technologies, and humanitarian action, featuring insights from leading ICRC legal and operational experts.

📑 New Case Alert | G5 Sahel Joint Force: Implementing a Compliance Framework for Civilian Protection

Our latest case study, published on IHL in Action website, examines how the G5 Sahel Joint Force established a Compliance Framework to align military operations with international humanitarian and human rights laws. This framework, created in collaboration with the United Nations and other partners, includes the Civilian Casualties Identification, Tracking, and Analysis Cell (CITAC), launched in 2021 to monitor and address incidents impacting civilians. This case demonstrates the steps taken by the G5 Sahel Joint Force to protect civilians and maintain accountability during operations in a challenging conflict environment.
