Dear MoveAbility Friends,
The football World Cup that took place this year in Russia has generated a lot of excitement around the world. While football attracts so much passion and crosses borders, it is also a great opportunity to promote sports for people with disabilities.
Indeed, sports for people with disabilities can serve to fight against discrimination, but it is also a means for them to achieve their full potential and find their place in society.
Outside the football fields, many events took place in favor of people with disabilities. Notably the Global Disability Summit which occurred in London on 24 July. This event aimed to increase disability inclusion and reduce stigma in low-income countries. Representatives from governments, civil society and the private sector met with humanitarian and development agencies. In particular, they have developed action plans for aid that are more inclusive for people with disabilities.
Alongside these events, which highlight a growing interest in the issue of disability and inclusion, our work makes all the more sense through the testimonies and stories that we receive from the field. Among them is Abdul and Musa's story, two young boys who dream of being elite athletes despite their disability. Or Sadafmo's poignant testimony, whose difficult path after an accident on a mine forges respect.
We hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as we enjoyed collecting them!
